Collaborative Research (continued)
Skidmore students and their professors have worked together
on numerous research projects. This kind of high-level scholarship
does more than enhances a student's understanding in a given
disipline; the practical, hands-on experience and "real-world"
accomplishment also instill a sense of confidence that will
benefit a graduate in any career. Projects from recent years
appear below, arranged by academic area.
Project: Women as Culturally
Defined: A Study of Culture and Gender in Contemporary China Participants: Associate Professor Mao Chen and Megan Erica Rhodes
'03 Plan: This research will focus on the gender issues and
inequalities young women experience in educational and workplace
settings. Along these lines, the sexually objectification of
women and how this may affect women's perceptions of their bodies
will also be studied. Another issue of interest is the role
of women within their families. For example, what are the cultural
standards for women concerning marriage and raising families
versus achieving a powerful status in the work place? The later
would also include studying the prevalence of divorce in China,
or lack thereof.
Creative Thought Matters.
