Call for Entries: Student Documentary Festival

February 23, 2017

MDOCS Student Doc Festival

MDOCS invites submissions in a variety of media (film, photography, audio and more) to its first Student Documentary Festival, which will take place as a part of the 2017 Storytellers' Institute Festosium. Held June 9–11 on the Skidmore College campus in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Festosium will feature filmmakers, photographers, audio creators, media makers and multimedia artists presenting recent documentary works that engage with the 2017 theme of “Space and Place.”

The deadline for submission is March 26, 2017. All work selected for the Student Documentary Festival is eligible for cash prizes of up to $500 and comes with an invitation to campus for the Festosium weekend, where students will participate in Festosium activities and be able to interact with documentarians at various stages in their careers.

Theme: We welcome evidence-based works that engage with this year’s theme “Space and Place.” Documentary has the power to transport audiences to and then guide them through places they have never been or places they can experience anew. From the expansive beauty of Yosemite to the constrained lives of Japanese Americans in the Manzanar Relocation Center photographed by Ansel Adams, documentary can refocus our gaze or open our ears to new understandings and insights into undiscovered or familiar spaces.
