Curatorial Assistant

Semester: summer
Research for an exhibition expected to open in spring 2016. The exhibition will be on the history of the Saratoga County Fair. The fair will be celebrating its 175 anniversary in 2016, and the Curatorial Assistant will work with the Saratoga County Fair committee to help research the history of the fair. The Curatorial Assistant will also work with the curator to come up with a unique concept for an exhibition at Brookside.
10 weeks; 10 hours/ week
Summer or Fall Semester 2015
Duties: The intern will research the history of the fair. Specific duties will include:
• Work with the curator to come up with interesting stories about the fair.
• Research using local newspapers to find printed stories.
• Think about conducting interviews with local residents about their remembrances of the fair.
• Begin writing outline and initial text for exhibition.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student to improve skills in research and writing, and could possibly include participation in exhibition design. Specific work hours can be somewhat flexible.
Skills: Assistant must have strong research and writing skills, attention to detail, strong organizational and computer skills, ability to work independently and in a team setting, and flexibility.
