January 27-28, 2013
Dear Student and Parent,
You are cordially invited to Skidmore's twenty-seventh annual Junior Admissions Workshop,
a unique offering among top liberal arts colleges. This award-winning program is
designed to assist children of alumni, siblings of current students, and children
of Skidmore employees in their college search. For many high school juniors, this
will be their first visit to a college campus as a prospective collegian and their
first comprehensive view of the admissions process. In addition to providing an insider's
view of Skidmore, the one and a half day experience clarifies personal goals, builds
confidence, and provides the groundwork to make the college search understandable
and achievable. It is also a lot of fun.
Each year approximately 100 students and their parents attend the workshop, and report
that they get tremendous value from it. Participants (parents are invited to most
events) learn the do's and don'ts of an admissions interview and the in and outs of
writing a stellar college application essay. Students and parents serve as voting
members of a simulated admissions committee, a hands-on exercise that helps to demystify
the decision-making process. Participants also hear from longtime admissions professional
Mary Lou W. Bates, Skidmore's dean of admissions and financial aid, as well as Admissions
and Alumni Affairs staff members. You will also have the opportunity to interact
with Skidmore students, and each other.
All lodging arrangements for high school participants and parents will be off campus
and should be made on your own. For information regarding hotel accommodations, we
recommend contacting the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce at 518-584-3255.
Space is limited so please register as soon as possible, but no later than January
11, 2013.
The complete workshop schedule is listed here on the website. We are very excited about this year's program and look forward to
seeing you in January.
Sincerely,
Jane Reisman
