IM Touch Football Rules

Four team minimum to have a season.

Starting the Game: A minimum of seven (7) is needed to start/continue a game . There is no requirement for male/female ratio. There is a limit of twelve (12) per roster. The first 10 minutes will be used as a warm-up period. Any team not ready to play 10 minutes after the scheduled game time will forfeit. Any team with two forfeits will be disqualified from further league play. Any team with one forfeit will be disqualified from playoffs. A coin toss will determine kickoff and side. The opposite will occur at the half. The original kickoffs can be thrown or kicked.
Equipment: The ball will be provided by the Intramural Department. The first team listed will wear white T-shirts and the second team listed will wear dark colored T-shirts (i.e. 1 v 2 team one would wear white and team two would wear dark colored T-shirts). Proper shoes are required.
Playing Time: Games will consist of a two twenty minute halves. Each team may have one 30 second time-out per half and the clock will stop.

Playing Area: Games will be held on the turf at the Sports Center

GENERAL RULES:
  1. Each team gets 4 downs to cross midfield and another to cross the goal line. Failure to do so results in a turnover on downs.
  2. Offensive line must have one hand on the ground at the start of each play.
    With first warning, a replay will result.
    With second warning, results in loss of down.
  3. Two hands need to be on player to be considered down.
  4. No tackling - automatic loss of down.
  5. Offensive holding - automatic loss of down.
  6. Offensive pass interference - automatic loss of down.
  7. Defensive holding - 5 yard penalty.
  8. Defensive pass inerference - play goes to spot of infraction.
  9. A snap to the quarterback must occur.
  10. One foot has to be in bounds in order for a catch to be good.
 

Overtime: There will be one 5 minute period with sudden death play. A tie can happen in league play. For championship play, 5 minute period will continue till a point is made.

Substitutions: Subs may enter at the beginning of any play.

Scoring: A touchdown equals 6 points. Extra point must cross the goal line in one play from 2 yard line

 

Officiating: There are no officials. Calls should be legitimate and in the spirit of the game.

Playoffs: TBD

Conduct: The "Honor System" will be used among the players in place of officials when officials are not present. Only the captains may speak to the commissioner and/or official about a questionable call.

The commissioner has the right to throw out a player for any reason the commissioner deems appropriate, including consistent arguing, obscene language, etc.

Disqualifications/Forfeits: If a player is disqualified for any unsportsperson-like act, he/she will be suspended from league play until reinstated by the Recreation Sports Department. Any player suspended from league play will not receive a championship t-shirt should his/her team win.

Any team with a forfeit will not be eligible for any playoff game regardless of record.Any team with two forfeits will be disqualified from further league play.


To qualify for a championship t-shirt, a player must have competed in at least two league games and the championship game.

Any disputes should be taken up with the commissioner on site. Any further discussion should be directed to the Intramural Director immediately following the game at ext 8350.
