Jan 28, 11:42:13Particpant -> Panelist(s)would studying abroad transfer the same financial aid package to that country or would you need a different financial aid package?
Jan 28, 11:45:20Skidmore -> EveryoneHello everyone1 Welcome to the Skidmore Financial Aid live chat. We'll begin in approximately 15 minutes. Please feel free to submit your questions at any time.
Jan 28, 11:49:39Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello, I have sent off my undergraduate application for fall 2015 however I have not received a link to an online admissions portal, will there be one available? My other question is, as an international applicant from the UK, what financial statements do I have to send and how do I send them? (I have already submitted a financial aid form through the CSS financial aid profile system). Thanks, Vicky
Jan 28, 11:52:36Particpant -> Panelist(s)I am self employed. Do I need to fill out the business/farm supplement? If so, where should I send the completed form? Patricia Childers
Jan 28, 11:57:43Particpant -> Panelist(s)Greetings
Jan 28, 11:58:03Particpant -> Panelist(s)How much is retirement income taken into consideration for the css profile?
Jan 28, 11:58:51Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi Caryn and beth,
Jan 28, 12:00:40Particpant -> Panelist(s)Good afternoon
Jan 28, 12:01:08Particpant -> Panelist(s)If most of our investments are in Iras,is that
Jan 28, 12:01:16Particpant -> Panelist(s)Financial Aid deadline being Feb 1, does that mean the FAFSA form? or something else? 2014 taxes being completed feb 3, can I submit the fafsa on Feb 4?
Jan 28, 12:01:53Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi!
Jan 28, 12:02:07Particpant -> Panelist(s)Does completing the FAFSA form hurt your childs chances of getting a merit scholarship?
Jan 28, 12:02:19Particpant -> Panelist(s)When do you release financial aid decisions?
Jan 28, 12:02:24Particpant -> Panelist(s)If our investments are mostly ira accounts, is that considered a real investment
Jan 28, 12:02:57Particpant -> Panelist(s)How does the aid package change from year to year?
Jan 28, 12:03:03Particpant -> Panelist(s)Becuase the FAFSA form requires you to enter all the schools at one time, does the Admission Department look to see other schools your child hs applied and does that weigh into their acceptance?
Jan 28, 12:04:18Particpant -> Panelist(s)I have not heard from my son's father and don't know if he will submit the parent financial aid form for the non-custodial parent. How should I proceed?
Jan 28, 12:05:03Particpant -> Panelist(s)For international students, we submitted all our information in the College board system. Is that enough or do I need to submit/send additional information?
Jan 28, 12:05:24Particpant -> Panelist(s)Have we started?
Jan 28, 12:06:17Particpant -> Panelist(s)I am currently a Texas-certified Pharmacy Technician trainee and will hopefully be a licensed technician by the end of the semester. I wanted to ask if I am able to bring my license to work at Skidmore or a nearby pharmacy, or would I have to go through another licensing for the state of New York?
Jan 28, 12:06:34Particpant -> Panelist(s)Is it necessary to fill in all colleges that one applies to for the FAFSA -or is one enough?
Jan 28, 12:06:40Particpant -> Panelist(s)As a general guideline, I am curious whether there is an income level (of the parents) that would disqualify a student for financial aid.
Jan 28, 12:06:41Skidmore -> EveryoneHi everyone, we're having some technical difficulties getting our panelists logged in. Pleas keep the questions coming. We'll begin shortly.
Jan 28, 12:07:15Particpant -> Panelist(s)What if our children are receiving social security benefits until they are 18, is that need to be shown on the css profile? If so, how would you show it?
Jan 28, 12:07:24Particpant -> Panelist(s)Is there a particular income level at which it does not make sense to apply for financial aid?
Jan 28, 12:07:32Particpant -> Panelist(s)What financial aid forms are mandatory?
Jan 28, 12:07:37Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello! My name is Natalie and I submitted my FAFSA to Skidmore just yesterday. Do I have to fill out and submit the Verification Worksheet by February 1st as well?
Jan 28, 12:07:42Particpant -> Panelist(s)CSS, FAFASA, and others?
Jan 28, 12:07:46Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello. What kind of aid is available to international students?
Jan 28, 12:07:49Particpant -> Panelist(s)We do not have tax return documents in Turkey. What should I submit instead as a supporting document?
Jan 28, 12:08:42Particpant -> Panelist(s)I just filed my 2014 income taxes, and my adjusted gross income is noticeably lower than my estimate on the CSS Financial Profile. I have the accurate information in the FAFSA. Will the estimates in the Profile adversely affect any award amount?
Jan 28, 12:09:11Skidmore -> EveryoneOkay, we're ready. Before we begin, the panelists will introduce themselves.
Jan 28, 12:09:16Caryn_FinancialAid -> EveryoneHi all. I am Caryn. I have worked in Financial Aid for many years.
I hope I can help you today.
Jan 28, 12:09:34Beth_FinancialAid -> EveryoneHi and Welcome to our virtual financial aid office!! We hope to answer all of your questions in this time together!
Beth
Jan 28, 12:10:08Particpant -> Panelist(s)I received an email saying my financial aid was complete, are there any other necessary steps to take about financial aid? I did CSS and FAFSA.
Jan 28, 12:10:10Particpant -> Panelist(s)first of all i would like to thank you for giving me such kind of opportunity to ask questions on live chat, i have already submitted my CSS profile, however i have few questions encompassing it, well the first one how long does it generally take to reach skidmore,? I've completed and submitted the profile on 26th of January, also i wanna know how i am going to be informed if the CSS profile reached Skidmore. the second general question is that my family has enlisted the amount they are willing to contribute to universities, and i wanna know how Skdimore supports students with finances, are they focusing on The amount of capital that family can provide or is it just a number for orientation,
Jan 28, 12:10:12Particpant -> Panelist(s)I just filed my 2014 income taxes, and my adjusted gross income is noticeably lower than my estimate on the CSS Financial Profile. I have the accurate information in the FAFSA. Will the estimates in the Profile adversely affect any award amount?
Jan 28, 12:10:20Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi there! I have a few questions for ya! First, regarding the London FYE program, does financial aid still apply and what does it cover?
Jan 28, 12:10:23Particpant -> Panelist(s)is there supposed to be audio or is this just questions/answers via text?
Jan 28, 12:10:37Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello, do you require the International student certification of finances ?
Jan 28, 12:10:39Particpant -> Panelist(s)Is there sound?
Jan 28, 12:10:52Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello. What kind of aid is available to international students?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Alexandra.
At Skidmore, we offer Skidmore Grant and Work Awards to a select group of international students.
Jan 28, 12:10:54Particpant -> Panelist(s)Wondering why financial aid forms and info needs to be submitted before we hear if our daughter has been accepted? Do our finances impact your admission decision?
Jan 28, 12:11:41Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidI just filed my 2014 income taxes, and my adjusted gross income is noticeably lower than my estimate on the CSS Financial Profile. I have the accurate information in the FAFSA. Will the estimates in the Profile adversely affect any award amount?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello BKaplan. Thank you for your question. It would be best if you contacted each school listed on the Profile and let them know of the disparity and offer to provide a copy of your 2014 tax return to support your request for using the accurate amount.
Jan 28, 12:11:44Particpant -> Panelist(s)How does skidmore help kids under DACA (Deferred action for childhood arrival)?
Jan 28, 12:12:04Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi Caryn, Does that mean you have a set number of students in mind, or do you have a certain annual budget?
Jan 28, 12:12:27Particpant -> Panelist(s)I have completed the FAFSA, the CSS Profile and the Business Supplement. I have used 2013 tax return data. At what point am I required to update the forms for the 2014 tax filing.
Jan 28, 12:12:29Particpant -> Panelist(s)I previously submitted two questions. should I re-submit or are questions answered as they are submitted?
Jan 28, 12:12:32Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello.I am international student, so does these grant and work awards cover all need? and how can one get these grants and awards?
Jan 28, 12:12:38Particpant -> Panelist(s)How is the CSS used ? and when a student requests being considered for financial aid - how does that affect the Admission decision?
Jan 28, 12:12:40Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hey. It's nice to meet you over live chat. My name is Michelle Asim and I have successfully applied to Skidmore as a freshman for Fall 2015. My question is, what if our 2014 tax papers have not been received yet? The deadline is February 1st for FAFSA and CSS.
Jan 28, 12:12:53Particpant -> Panelist(s)I am an international student, will I have chance to get financial aid?
Jan 28, 12:13:17Particpant -> Panelist(s)Could you please tell me what percentage of enrolled int students receive sufficient financial help annually?
Jan 28, 12:13:25Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi there! I have a few questions for ya! First, regarding the London FYE program, does financial aid still apply and what does it cover?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Taylor_M! Regarding the London First Year program, if you qualify for Skidmore Grant assistance then we will increase your grant by the differential housing charge. Unfortunately, and perhaps not surprisingly, you will not be able to participate in work-study while abroad. Hope that helps!
Jan 28, 12:13:49Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidCSS, FAFASA, and others?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Phil. I am thinking you are asking what forms Skidmore requires for financial aid applicants. If so, incoming freshman aid applicants must file the CSS PROFILE. For separated/divorced parents, the Non-Custodial PROFILE is also needed. If/when a freshman enrolls,the FAFSA would be required.
Jan 28, 12:14:06Particpant -> Panelist(s)I also have a question not related to financial aid, but hope you can answer it anyway: does Skidmore College have a web site where we can verify our application status? If yes, could you please list the link here?
Jan 28, 12:14:34Particpant -> Panelist(s)Does Skidmore have a HEOP program?
Jan 28, 12:14:44Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI received an email saying my financial aid was complete, are there any other necessary steps to take about financial aid? I did CSS and FAFSA.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Alexandra. If you received that email, than for now, no additional aid forms are needed. The FAFSA will be required if/when you enroll.
Jan 28, 12:14:53Particpant -> Panelist(s)I am an international applicant from the UK - apart from CSS, what financial statements should I send in?
Jan 28, 12:15:03Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidWe do not have tax return documents in Turkey. What should I submit instead as a supporting document?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello mervekahraman, you needn't submit supporting income documentation unless we ask for it. We would only request it if you are admitted and subsequently enroll at Skidmore! (which we hope is the case, of course!) And, should you end up enrolling at Skidmore, a statement of earnings from an employer could be used.
Jan 28, 12:15:08Particpant -> Panelist(s)If the non-custodial parent has no financial obligations or interest in the student, what do I have to do re: teh CSS and Non-custodial profile?
Jan 28, 12:15:22Particpant -> Panelist(s)So the CSS and FAFSA are both required even if you are not expecting federal financial aid but only merit awards?
Jan 28, 12:15:41Particpant -> Panelist(s)My child applied ED II. I have submitted the CSS Profile. Do I only file the FAFSA if she is admitted? And what is that deadline?
Jan 28, 12:15:46Particpant -> Panelist(s)if we've completed the CSS do we need to submit that separately to each college or does that happen automatically via the commmon app? How can we find out if you have our CSS?
Jan 28, 12:16:05Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi is possible for an international applicant to receive a full tuition scholarship + some of the room&boarding costs if he displays excellent academic skills?
Jan 28, 12:16:23Particpant -> Panelist(s)Do you base your estimated income on gross income or net income?
Jan 28, 12:16:33Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi, I am hoping that you can share with us the process for obtaining financial aid? I am wondering how to go about this when I am newly remarried and both the biological father and myself do not have a lot of means but my new husband has some. He has 2 of his own children to get through college and it is not his responsibility to pay for my daughter's education. However, if we fill out the FAFSA then his income must be noted and it is not his responsibility to pay for my daughter and bc of his income I am very concerned that we will not be given a fair shot. Also, my new husband and my ex husband are not able to get there 2014 tax returns done before March 1st. Can you please advise. Sorry for all of these questions. Thank you
Jan 28, 12:16:34Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi everyone!
Jan 28, 12:16:51Particpant -> Panelist(s)We won't have our 2014 taxes done in time, so we estimated on the CSS Profile. What is the latest deadline to submit the actual return?
Jan 28, 12:17:24Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi! I am currently a Texas-certified Pharmacy Technician trainee and will hopefully become a licensed technician by the end of the semester. Will I be able to use my license at Skidmore or a nearby pharmacy, or will I have to go through the process again under New York's guidelines?
Jan 28, 12:17:27Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHow does skidmore help kids under DACA (Deferred action for childhood arrival)?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi ncanenguez, Skidmore provides limited grant assistance to those students who do not qualify for Federal financial aid assistance. You would complete a CSS Profile (due date is February 1) for consideration of assistance.
Jan 28, 12:17:48Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi! I am an international student from Belarus needing financial aid. As I was filling my CSS profile, a question arose: should I fill in the currency values in Belarusian rubles or in US dollars?
Jan 28, 12:17:51Particpant -> Panelist(s)I am in the process of having my 2014 tax returns completed. My FAFSA is done and I am aware that I need to go back and update the FAFSA once my tax returns are done. What about the CSS? Do I go back and update that form too? Or does the school do it when they receive my tax returns.
Jan 28, 12:19:03Particpant -> Panelist(s)Good afternoon! Does skidmore require the css profile and fafsa?
Jan 28, 12:19:14Particpant -> Panelist(s)My daughter has not seen or spoken to her father since 2008. Can I get some type of Non Custodial parent waiver?
Jan 28, 12:19:25Particpant -> Panelist(s)How does Financial Aid work from incoming and current international students?
Jan 28, 12:19:31Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHey. It's nice to meet you over live chat. My name is Michelle Asim and I have successfully applied to Skidmore as a freshman for Fall 2015. My question is, what if our 2014 tax papers have not been received yet? The deadline is February 1st for FAFSA and CSS.
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello Michelle - nice to "meet" you to! Because our deadline for filing the CSS Profile is February 1, most families have not yet completed their 2014 Federal tax forms. That is just fine - you should estimate income information (and you can indicate on the form that it is estimated). If you enroll at Skidmore we will then request a copy of your submitted tax return to verify your estimated information on the financial aid application.
Jan 28, 12:19:51Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHi Caryn, Does that mean you have a set number of students in mind, or do you have a certain annual budget?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantAlexandra - we have roughly 44% or our population receiving Skidmore Grant aid. Skidmore is "need aware". A majority of our admissions applicants are accepted regardless of their financial need.
Jan 28, 12:19:59Particpant -> Panelist(s)My parent's financial situation will change in the coming year. How do I let the office know?
Jan 28, 12:20:51Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello, do you require the International student certification of finances ?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello. No we do not require this form. International students must file the CSS PROFILE application. If/when admitted, we ask students to provide income information for the prior year.
Jan 28, 12:21:09Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hey! My name is Humam Al-Rubyae from Iraq. My question is Does an international student, like me, have a good chance in getting good financial aid?
Jan 28, 12:21:29Particpant -> Panelist(s)If I am awarded a financial aid package from Skidmore, will the package change after freshman year? What if my financial circumstances change during my time in school, will it change then?
Jan 28, 12:21:35Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI am an international student, will I have chance to get financial aid?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Lauren.
Skidmore offers a limited number of international students financial aid.
Jan 28, 12:22:01Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi i am from UWC Maastricht. i have a few question question what type of financial do we receive and what does it cover.
Jan 28, 12:22:33Particpant -> Panelist(s)What can be done if the non-custodial parent does not complete the form?
Jan 28, 12:23:12Particpant -> Panelist(s)Will submitting my 2013 taxes be acceptable since the 2014 taxes have not been filed yet? The deadline is in a few days.
Jan 28, 12:23:29Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHow is the CSS used ? and when a student requests being considered for financial aid - how does that affect the Admission decision?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi liz, Am not completely sure what you mean by "How is the CSS used" but we collect a lot more information on the CSS Profile financial aid application than is collected on the FAFSA. That gives our office a better understanding of a family's financial circumstances. We use that information to determine the student's financial need and then award funds based on that need. We are a "need-sensitive" school. While our Skidmore Grant budget is significant, it is not limitless. So, in order to ensure we stay as close to our budget as possible, we sometimes must limit the amount of financial aid offers that we send out. Since we have a wonderful "meet-need" policy, which is to say we promise to offer financial assistance in the amount equal to someone's calculated need (not very many colleges do this), we sometimes cannot admit as many students who need Skidmore Grant as we might otherwise like to. Hope that long answer helps you!
Jan 28, 12:24:24Particpant -> Panelist(s)Does Skidmore consider SAT/SAT subject test scores and/or applicants activities and awards or are these grants given to international students only by their need?
Jan 28, 12:24:57Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI have completed the FAFSA, the CSS Profile and the Business Supplement. I have used 2013 tax return data. At what point am I required to update the forms for the 2014 tax filing.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Tracy.
If your 2014 income is rather different than what was provided on the CSS PROFILE, I would encourage you to provide to Skidmore's Financial Aid Office a copy of the 2014 Federal Income Tax Return, W2s and schedules after the tax return is filed.
You can go to the FAFSA website after your tax returns are filed and revise your income data.
Enrolled freshmen are asked to provide copies of the 2014 tax returns (along with other documentation which you can find on our website) in April
Jan 28, 12:24:58Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHello.I am international student, so does these grant and work awards cover all need? and how can one get these grants and awards?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi andro19971, yes, our policy is to award financial aid equaling a student's calculated need - as long as the financial aid application is completed by our deadline (February 1). The required for is the College Board's CSS Profile, which may be found on the College Board's website www.collegeboard.org.
Jan 28, 12:25:40Particpant -> Panelist(s)How many international undergraduate students admitted last year (Fall 2014) and/or the year before that (Fall 2013) received financial aid worth more than 60% of the total fee?
Jan 28, 12:26:46Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi, sorry if i asked this again and you haven't responded yet, is it possible for an international student to receive almost full need (tuition + some of the boarding costs) if he has excellent academic skills, various prizes at olympiads and lots of activities?
Jan 28, 12:26:58Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello! For the css profile, can I get a waiver if I do not have information about my noncustodial parent? also, if we havent received the tax return, how do we know what tax form it is? finally, i was told there is a way to have the irs send you tax information once it is available. is that true? my mother does not have her tax information yet for 2014 and she did not file taxes in 2013 so I don't know what information to put. should i estimate? and guess?
Jan 28, 12:27:04Particpant -> Panelist(s)i also want to ask last time i received an e-mail saying that my financial aid is complete is there anything else we need to fill? and when will we get to know if we are accepted?
Jan 28, 12:27:06Particpant -> Panelist(s)do the scholarships depends on our SAT or ACT scores? and will Skidmore accept the February ACT test score? and for what amount may the scholarship reach for an international student like me?
Jan 28, 12:27:10Particpant -> Panelist(s)how does studying abroad effect a student's financial aid package?
Jan 28, 12:27:21Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidWondering why financial aid forms and info needs to be submitted before we hear if our daughter has been accepted? Do our finances impact your admission decision?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello JSK, the reason we request the financial aid forms so early is that we promise to fund students up to their demonstrated financial need. We need time to review the thousands of financial aid applicants before admissions decisions (and financial aid decisions) are mailed to applicants in late March each year. Students only have until May 1 to make their decision, so it is a tight timeframe for us all!
Jan 28, 12:28:07Particpant -> Panelist(s)hello, I am an international student and I have already completed CSS profile, am I obliged to send anything else before the deadline?
Jan 28, 12:28:19Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidWhat if our children are receiving social security benefits until they are 18, is that need to be shown on the css profile? If so, how would you show it?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Sue! There is a separate question for social security benefits received in the prior year that is asked on the CSS Profile.
Jan 28, 12:28:25Particpant -> Panelist(s)We don't file Tax a Return in my country. Is that an issue when it comes to being considered for financial aid?
Jan 28, 12:28:32Particpant -> Panelist(s)Is anyone still there? It's been 27 minutes and three questions answered, just checking to see if there are technical problems?
Jan 28, 12:28:36Particpant -> Panelist(s)As an international student , I'm not familiar with the CSS profile requirements and It's difficult for me to get any kind of tax forms .. I'm not living in a big city .. I also find it somehow difficult to calculate the projected contribution by the family during the 4 years .. I don't know how to get over this .
Jan 28, 12:29:15Particpant -> Panelist(s)This is incredible informative. Thank you!
Jan 28, 12:29:18Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello Again, If there is more than one person in my family in college, will this affect our need?
Jan 28, 12:29:32Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidAs a general guideline, I am curious whether there is an income level (of the parents) that would disqualify a student for financial aid.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Sherry.
That's a good question but the black and white answer is "no". Why? The CSS PROFILE asks about income, assets and family size. A family could have a lower income but higher assets and not be eligible for financial aid.
Having said that, for a family size of 4 whose income is around $250,000 with only one child in college, that family would likely not qualify for Skidmore Grant aid but would qualify for federal loans and work study.
Jan 28, 12:30:09Particpant -> Panelist(s)I've posed question earlier,(i am an international student) and i haven't received response yet, i do not have questions which generally encompass the materials or information that is used in CSS profile because i have already submitted it, what i want to know is when is it going to reach skidmore, and how am i going to be informed about it? thank you for your attention
Jan 28, 12:30:23Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidI have not heard from my son's father and don't know if he will submit the parent financial aid form for the non-custodial parent. How should I proceed?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Patricia, if you would like to email our office using finaid@skidmore.edu, we can also send an email (assuming you have his email address) and see what, if any, response is received. There is also the option of requesting that a third party (non relative) write to us if there is a history of non-participation by your son's father that they are aware of.
Jan 28, 12:30:57Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidWhen do you release financial aid decisions?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantSkidmore notifies regular decision applicants late March. If the student is admitted and an aid applicant, the student will be notified at the same time concerning aid eligibility.
Jan 28, 12:31:45Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidDo you base your estimated income on gross income or net income?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Emma! There are a few questions that are asked on the CSS Profile about income. Adjusted Gross Income, untaxed income, earnings, etc. All of those varieties of incomes need to be reported and we use them in a formula to determine the student's demonstrated financial need and financial aid.
Jan 28, 12:32:45Particpant -> Panelist(s)I'm filing the CSS Profile by myself because the guidance counselors at my school are only familiar with the FAFSA. If I accidentally report my taxes incorrectly, will I be able to fix this with the financial aid office at Skidmore? Can I send a copy of my tax forms just in case?
Jan 28, 12:33:15Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello, Im an international student.Is it possible to get a full covered merit or need based financial aid?
Jan 28, 12:33:27Particpant -> Panelist(s)do International Students receive 100% of their needs?
Jan 28, 12:33:30Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidif we've completed the CSS do we need to submit that separately to each college or does that happen automatically via the commmon app? How can we find out if you have our CSS?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantWhen filing the CSS PROFILE, you list all the schools that should receive the PROFILE data at that time.
Skidmore aid applicants are notified if their aid applicants are complete. We also notified any incomplete students last week as well.
Have your student check his/her email.
Your student can also email finaid@skidmore.edu and ask.
Jan 28, 12:34:33Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidMy child applied ED II. I have submitted the CSS Profile. Do I only file the FAFSA if she is admitted? And what is that deadline?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantAdmitted and enrolled freshman (ED1, ED2, RD) are asked to complete the FAFSA in April.
Jan 28, 12:35:09Particpant -> Panelist(s)I have my CSS profile completed but then I cannot send it due to lack of finances. I wanted to inquire if there is any other way to apply for financial aid or if you give out fee waivers
Jan 28, 12:35:13Particpant -> Panelist(s)What about NYS aid (Tap)? When is that due?
Jan 28, 12:35:49Particpant -> Panelist(s)I know you might not be able to answer but I'd appreciate you trying. Let's suppose my mother only make about 20K a year, my father can't work, I have 4 siblings, etc ... What kind of financial aid package can Skidmore offer me?
Jan 28, 12:35:50Particpant -> Panelist(s)For incoming freshman what other forms (if any) are required by Feb. 1 other than the CSS Profile?
Jan 28, 12:36:00Particpant -> Panelist(s)Does applying for financial aid hurt an international applicant's chances?
Jan 28, 12:36:05Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi, I am hoping that you can share with us the process for obtaining financial aid? I am wondering how to go about this when I am newly remarried and both the biological father and myself do not have a lot of means but my new husband has some. He has 2 of his own children to get through college and it is not his responsibility to pay for my daughter's education. However, if we fill out the FAFSA then his income must be noted and it is not his responsibility to pay for my daughter and bc of his income I am very concerned that we will not be given a fair shot. Also, my new husband and my ex husband are not able to get there 2014 tax returns done before March 1st. Can you please advise. Sorry for all of these questions. Thank you
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello Syd, you should complete the CSS Profile ASAP (and by February 1). This financial aid application can be found at the College Board's website www.collegeboard.org. You will need to report your current husband's information (as you correctly note). We will also be requesting your daughter's father's information via the CSS Non-custodial Profile. Start by getting these applications completed by February 1st. If your daughter is admitted, and the financial aid awarded makes it unaffordable, don't hesitate to contact our office to discuss it. But, she definitely won't get any assistance if you don't get the financial aid application submitted...
Jan 28, 12:36:59Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidSo the CSS and FAFSA are both required even if you are not expecting federal financial aid but only merit awards?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Mary.
Skidmore's grant budget is predominantly need based. We offer about 10 freshman merit based scholarships per year. The Filene Scholarship is based on musical talent. There is also the Porter Scholarship in Math and Science. Neither the CSS PROFILE or the FAFSA are required for these awards. Please see the Admissions website about applying for these merit scholarships.
Jan 28, 12:37:01Particpant -> Panelist(s)How
Jan 28, 12:37:02Particpant -> Panelist(s)How long does it usually take for a CSS to be sent and processed?
Jan 28, 12:37:18Particpant -> Panelist(s)With a family income of 225 to 250k, will we qualify for aid? is there reason to undertake the process?
Jan 28, 12:38:05Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi is possible for an international applicant to receive a full tuition scholarship + some of the room&boarding costs if he displays excellent academic skills?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi CristianDragomir, yes, it is possible for any student to receive financial aid that totals tuition+fees+room+board. All of our financial aid is need-based, which means it is based on the family's financial circumstances. We do have two small (in number) awards - the Filene music award (won as a result of a music competition) and the Porter math/science scholarship. Check our webpages for more information on these awards, if of-interest!
Jan 28, 12:38:30Particpant -> Panelist(s)Can International students apply for merit based scholarships? Can we have financial aid + merit scholarship?
Jan 28, 12:38:53Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidIf the non-custodial parent has no financial obligations or interest in the student, what do I have to do re: teh CSS and Non-custodial profile?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantPlease file the Non-Custodial PROFILE regardless of your intent so that your child's aid application is considered complete. You can include your sentiments on the NCP.
Jan 28, 12:39:25Particpant -> Panelist(s)With a family income of 225 to 250k, will we qualify for aid? is there reason to undertake the process?
Jan 28, 12:39:26Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thanks for the info, I see that the porter scholarship already has passed its deadline , is it possible to still apply? (it was 15th January)
Jan 28, 12:39:56Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi. My name is Nhi Nguyen. Are all admitted students met full-need?
Jan 28, 12:40:03Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi! I am an international student from Belarus needing financial aid. As I was filling my CSS profile, a question arose: should I fill in the currency values in Belarusian rubles or in US dollars?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello Vlad7777! You report your dollar amounts in the currency of your country on the CSS Profile.
Jan 28, 12:40:06Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidDoes Skidmore have a HEOP program?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Michelle.
Yes, Skidmore participates in the HEOP program.
Jan 28, 12:40:31Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi. If I am not mistaken, only some successful international applicants, who also apply for the financial aid, can receive the financial support. Is it correct?
Jan 28, 12:40:38Particpant -> Panelist(s)How do we apply for HEOP?
Jan 28, 12:41:36Particpant -> Panelist(s)(I tried sending in my question and I'm not sure if it was sent, so I apologize in advance if it was and this is just a repeat!) Hello! I sent in my FAFSA yesterday, and I know that on the forms page there is a Verification Worksheet for both independent and dependent students. Am I supposed to fill it in and submit it by February 1, or do I wait until if and when I am accepted/enrolled?
Jan 28, 12:41:49Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello! My name is Natalie and I submitted my FAFSA to Skidmore just yesterday. Do I have to fill out and submit the Verification Worksheet by February 1st as well?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Natalie.
Skidmore requires aid applicants file the CSS PROFILE to be considered for Skidmore Grant aid. The Verification Worksheet is not needed at this time. Please check www.skidmore.edu/financialaid for more details.
Jan 28, 12:42:25Particpant -> Panelist(s)I want to stop my financial aid and update my application. G
Jan 28, 12:42:32Particpant -> Panelist(s)How do u do that
Jan 28, 12:42:52Particpant -> Panelist(s)I know Skidmore is not need-blinded. What is the average tuition fee parents should pay to give them higher chance of getting accepted into Skidmore?
Jan 28, 12:42:55Particpant -> Panelist(s)My question just got process and answered; sorry for the duplicate and thank you for answering! Have a nice day!
Jan 28, 12:43:08Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidIs there a particular income level at which it does not make sense to apply for financial aid?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi.
A student whose parents' income is over $250,000, with a family size of 4 and one in college, is likely not to be eligible for our need based Skidmore Grant.
Jan 28, 12:43:26Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi, I was wondering if you only had to submit the CSS Profile by Feb. 1 or you had to submit the CSS Profile and the FAFSA by Feb. 1?
Jan 28, 12:43:51Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello my name is Yasmina Khorma, I would like to know, if I don't want financial aid anymore how do I cancel it on my application?
Jan 28, 12:44:06Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello! Is the number of students receiving full tuition scholarship limited, or any student that suits can receive ?
Jan 28, 12:44:23Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidfirst of all i would like to thank you for giving me such kind of opportunity to ask questions on live chat, i have already submitted my CSS profile, however i have few questions encompassing it, well the first one how long does it generally take to reach skidmore,? I've completed and submitted the profile on 26th of January, also i wanna know how i am going to be informed if the CSS profile reached Skidmore. the second general question is that my family has enlisted the amount they are willing to contribute to universities, and i wanna know how Skdimore supports students with finances, are they focusing on The amount of capital that family can provide or is it just a number for orientation,
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Roko_the_squirrel, Skidmore would receive an electronic file of your CSS Profile data the day or two after you submit it. We have an automated process that sends email confirmation to students when we have received the initial required forms. To try and answer what I can see of the second part of your question - we would look at what your parents indicate they are willing to spend, and then we are also looking at what we are calculating they can afford to spend. We understand these numbers don't necessarily match. So, if you are admitted and offered financial aid and need more help to make it an affordable option, that's when you should be in touch with us! And, of course, if you have any questions along the process as well. Good luck!
Jan 28, 12:44:32Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello I am an international student and may have some problem submitting CSS profile on time. Is there a way we can ask for some more time for the profile to be submitted? Can I submit ISFAA instead of CSS?
Jan 28, 12:44:48Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidwould studying abroad transfer the same financial aid package to that country or would you need a different financial aid package?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantGood question!
Skidmore has about 150 abroad programs to select from. Financial Aid can be applied to these programs. We offer additional grant aid to assist with airfare. We do not replace a student's work study award when he/she studies abroad.
Jan 28, 12:45:42Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidFor international students, we submitted all our information in the College board system. Is that enough or do I need to submit/send additional information?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello Monica - for international students we only initially require the CSS Profile. If you enroll, we will then ask for supporting documentation (and that answer is true and applicable to domestic students as well).
Jan 28, 12:46:16Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello good day, I am an applicant from the United World College Red Cross Nordic.Quite some time ago, I sent an email requesting for a CSS profile fee waiver code. Prior to this time, I haven't gotten any response. Would it be possible to get a CSS profile fee waiver code soon, so that I could submit my application to skidmore before the deadline? My email address is : nc13mmuh@stud.rcnuwc.no Thanks
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantSorry. We receive many email requests for fee waivers from international students. Please again email finaid@skidmore.edu and request this.
Jan 28, 12:46:58Particpant -> Panelist(s)My daughter applied, we are working our way through the CSS. Do you have a yellow ribbon program? If so, how do we apply?
Jan 28, 12:47:04Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidIf our investments are mostly ira accounts, is that considered a real investment
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Sue! IRA accounts and any other qualified retirement fund (like a 401k or 403b, ect.) are excluded from the formula we used to determine financial aid eligibility. So, while they certainly are a "real investment," they will not impact the student's eligibility for financial aid.
Jan 28, 12:47:09Particpant -> Panelist(s)is financial aid ongoing or do students need to apply annually? What if the family's financial circumstances change significantly during a student's time at school?
Jan 28, 12:48:24Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidMy parent's financial situation will change in the coming year. How do I let the office know?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Vartan.
For the 2015/16 academic year, financial aid will be based on the 2014 income. If the PROFILE has not yet been filed, you can notate on the PROFILE that a change of income is expected. You are also asked to provide the expected income for the 2015 year.
If you have filed the PROFILE already, your parent can email Financial Aid and share this information.
Jan 28, 12:49:07Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you.
Jan 28, 12:49:45Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidFinancial Aid deadline being Feb 1, does that mean the FAFSA form? or something else? 2014 taxes being completed feb 3, can I submit the fafsa on Feb 4?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Deana, Skidmore actually doesn't need the FAFSA completed until/unless the student is admitted and enrolls. (other colleges may have other rules, of course) Skidmore's requirement is for the CSS Profile, which is found on the College Board's website www.collegeboard.org. This is the form we require by February 1. On both the Profile and the FAFSA you may estimate your income information if your tax return is not yet submitted. At Skidmore, we require copies of tax returns once the student enrolls.
Jan 28, 12:49:56Particpant -> Panelist(s)What will happen if I miss the deadline for application of financial aid?
Jan 28, 12:50:39Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI am in the process of having my 2014 tax returns completed. My FAFSA is done and I am aware that I need to go back and update the FAFSA once my tax returns are done. What about the CSS? Do I go back and update that form too? Or does the school do it when they receive my tax returns.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Arleen.
You would not update your CSS PROFILE with your actual income figures. If/when you enroll, you will be asked to provide a copy of the tax returns and W2s later (April). If you the tax information is significantly different than what was reported on the PROFILE, you are encouraged to provide the 1040 as soon as possible.
Jan 28, 12:50:50Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidI am self employed. Do I need to fill out the business/farm supplement? If so, where should I send the completed form? Patricia Childers
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello Patricia, yes, we ask self-employed parents to complete the Business/farm supplement and you can email it to finaid@skidmore.edu in pdf form or send a copy in the mail to us at Financial Aid Office, 815 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs NY 12866
Jan 28, 12:51:39Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello madam, how much likely is an international student with good academics but poor financial condition get full need-blind scholarship?
Jan 28, 12:52:03Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidMy daughter has not seen or spoken to her father since 2008. Can I get some type of Non Custodial parent waiver?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Mary - we do accept letters/emails from knowledgeable third parties - someone who knows you and the family situation (like a social worker, a guidance counselor or teacher, a clergy person, etc.) and who is not a family member. Hope that helps.
Jan 28, 12:52:36Particpant -> Panelist(s)Do the parents need to complete the business and farm supplement ? If yes, then when is the deadline to submit it ?
Jan 28, 12:53:19Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidSince my mother is an unemployed widow and we live with some government aid, I am not able to pay much for my college. Does the college consider such circumstances?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi PratigyaTiwari - yes, almost 100% of our financial aid is based on an assessment of the family's financial circumstances. Please be sure to get the financial aid application submitted by February 1. The form is the 15-16 CSS Profile and found at the College Board's website www.collegeboard.org.
Jan 28, 12:54:06Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidIf I am awarded a financial aid package from Skidmore, will the package change after freshman year? What if my financial circumstances change during my time in school, will it change then?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantFinancial aid at Skidmore is need based. Each year you will apply for aid. You can expect if your income and assets stay fairly the same, the aid package will remain similar year to year. Aid packages can change when the income changes, assets change or the number in college changes. Aid can increase or decrease based on these circumstances. Skidmore tries to work with families who experience hardships such as a loss of job or illness.
Jan 28, 12:54:45Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidOn the IFA form question number 10 asks for the list of schools you are applying to. May I skip this question if I feel uncomfortable answering it and will this affect my application?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Kimmy, we do not accept the IFA, but rather require the CSS Profile be completed by international students. You have until February 1st to get this form into us. And, by the way, it does not matter to our review if you apply to other schools, or which schools you may apply to, or if you are only applying to Skidmore. Hope that helps.
Jan 28, 12:55:03Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello! If you're not applying for need based financial aid, but would like to be considered for other scholarships (Filene for example), do you need to submit a FAFSA form? Thank you.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Erica.
No, the FAFSA nor the CSS PROFILE application are needed if ONLY applying for the Filene or Porter Scholarship.
Jan 28, 12:55:42Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI already finished CSS PROFILE and FAFSA. But after the CSS Profile, it requires to finish the Noncustodial Parent Profile. Is the NCP deadline also Feb 1st?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantYes, please have the Non-Custodial PROFILE completed by February 1st.
Jan 28, 12:56:10Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi, I am a US citizen but currently schooling in Ghana. I have completed the CSS Profile but I am unable to complete the submission becuase college board does not accept credit card payment from Ghana and I do not know what else to do. How can I get my profile to Skidmore?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantDear Dawn Sagoe, please email finaid@skidmore.edu for a code that you can use in place of the credit card. We make this code available to students in countries that are on a list such as Ghana where financial transactions are not allowed.
Jan 28, 12:57:11Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi, I was wondering if you had to submit the both the CSS Profile and the FAFSA by Feb. 1st?
Jan 28, 12:58:39Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidCan I have my CSS profile fee waived in case I cannot afford the submission fee?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantIf you meet certain conditions as you are filing the CSS PROFILE, the fee will be waived. I am RECALLING if the income is below $40,000 and the home value is under $100,00, the fee is waived.
Jan 28, 12:59:33Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHow much is retirement income taken into consideration for the css profile?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Sue - Retirement *income* is taken into consideration just as as wages or interest or business income. We are using the adjusted gross income + certain untaxed income as a baseline in the formula. What it means for eligibility depends upon a variety of factors such as household size, number of family members enrolled in college, assets, etc. Feel free to try out our Net Price Calculator at www.skidmore.edu/financialaid for an early estimate of aid eligibility.
Jan 28, 12:59:55Particpant -> Panelist(s)But what if I am an international student and I can't afford the CSS submission fee?
Jan 28, 13:00:19Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidDoes completing the FAFSA form hurt your childs chances of getting a merit scholarship?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Deana.
No, filing the FAFSA does not impact the Filene or Porter Scholarship. If interested in applying for our need based Skidmore Grant, be sure to file the CSS PROFILE. Filing the PROFILE does not impact a student who is applying for the Filene or Porter.
Jan 28, 13:00:28Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidWhat can be done if the non-custodial parent does not complete the form?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Patricia, you may have read by now that we do accept letters/emails from third parties - someone who is not a family member but is aware of the situation, such as an attorney or guidance counselor, clergy person, etc.
Jan 28, 13:00:40Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi I was just wondering how you attach the earnings and expenditures for the year and whether we list the house expenses or itemize them
Jan 28, 13:00:49Particpant -> Panelist(s)As an international student applying as an athlete - are we able to access financial aid that is not state funded (I am aware we cannot access state financial aid). Also, what is the average scholarship for a 30 ACT?
Jan 28, 13:01:36Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thanks so much for answering my questions! Concerning the Non Custodial Profile and a letter submitted from a third party instead - how do we have them submit it - email, regular mail, etc? Also, will the Profile show as incomplete?
Jan 28, 13:02:01Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello! My name is Vika and i am an international student from Tbilisi, Georgia. Cost of attandance for international is 47314$, am I right? And what is an average financial aid given to international students?
Jan 28, 13:03:00Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHow does Financial Aid work from incoming and current international students?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantMike, not sure I get your question but will try...
Skidmore offers aid to a limited number of international students. The aid is in the form of grant and work awards. International students will re-apply for aid, like all other students, each year. And like all other students, if a student continues to show financial need, we will continue to offer assistance.
Jan 28, 13:03:01Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidDoes Skidmore consider SAT/SAT subject test scores and/or applicants activities and awards or are these grants given to international students only by their need?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantGreat question, andro19971! While Skidmore does not have general non-need based awards (sometimes called "merit" awards) students with strong academic portfolios (grades, rigorous coursework, test scores) have an advantage in almost every way, at almost every college. An academically "strong" student is more likely to be admitted at a college, more likely to receive financial aid at a college and more likely to receive a higher level of financial aid at a college.
Jan 28, 13:05:13Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHow many international undergraduate students admitted last year (Fall 2014) and/or the year before that (Fall 2013) received financial aid worth more than 60% of the total fee?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi awiq14 - wow, I must say that is a good, if complicated question! I do not have that figure off the top of my head! Most of the international students who were admitted and eligible for financial aid qualified for more than $40,000 in grant assistance. We have a "meet-need" policy, so each individual award is based on the individual financial circumstances of the family. If you need more detailed information, please feel free to email me at finaid@skidmore.edu and I will have to look up those figures for you! :-)
Jan 28, 13:06:25Particpant -> Panelist(s)I'm an international student. I sent the common application, sat and toefl scores, and css profile. Is there a portal to check if I've completed my application? Other universities have an online page where they specify which materials they lack. Thanks!
Jan 28, 13:08:39Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi, I am an international applicant applying from Bulgaria. I already submitted my CSS Profile to Skidmore. Should I send you any supporting documents, such as parents' 2014 gross income as well, or will these be requested later? Thank you!
Jan 28, 13:08:41Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidSo glad ya'll are doing this. Hope you are getting along okay today. I have two questions... 1-Our W2s won't be available from our employer until end of Jan. I've done a preliminary tax return based on everything I do have and the earnings from last year (the same unfortunately). Can I fill out FASFA based on that and update later if anything changes? 2-My daughter is applying for a couple smaller local scholarships. Does she just apply from those without knowing where she is going or does that hurt her chances. I know you aren't awarding those scholarships but in general does it help to have an acceptance in hand when applying? and a third.... When will Skidmore notify students. Even on this cold, cold day, my daughter Olivia Snow Smith is so ready to leave Florida behind for Skidmore. And can you confirm you have everything you need from us for the CSS profile. Thanks a lot... Katherine Snow Smith katherinesmith3@mac.com 727-409-3642
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello KatherineSnowSmith! We are happy to be doing this, too! Answer to #1 - yes, you can/should complete the FAFSA based on estimated income and yes you can/should then log back into the FAFSA to update it once your tax returns are submitted. IMPORTANT POINT: Skidmore requires the CSS Profile found at the www.collegeboard.org website. This form needs to be submitted by February 1 for Skidmore Grant consideration. #2 I would go by the deadline. If you need to get the local scholarship application in before she hears from all her schools, then submit it. Many organizations understand the timing of the process and will simply ask to be notified of her final decision by May 1 or when she knows it. Good luck!
Jan 28, 13:09:20Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi, is the CSS profile or the FAFSA due by Feb. 1?
Jan 28, 13:09:29Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello! For the css profile, can I get a waiver if I do not have information about my noncustodial parent? also, if we havent received the tax return, how do we know what tax form it is? finally, i was told there is a way to have the irs send you tax information once it is available. is that true? my mother does not have her tax information yet for 2014 and she did not file taxes in 2013 so I don't know what information to put. should i estimate? and guess?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantIf you are unable to get the Non-Custodial PROFILE, you should ask a third party to document your situation. Possibly a teacher, or guidance counselor or member of the clergy can provide in writing why your non-custodial parent is unable to complete the form. Once Skidmore Financial Aid receives this letter or email (finaid@skidmore.edu), we will make a decision to waive or not waive the form.
It is likely that your parent will not have her 2014 tax return completed before our CSS PROFILE deadline of February 1st. Parents should estimate their 2014 income using last year's information and the last pay stub for 2014 or if the W2 has been received for 2014 than that.
The FAFSA provides a link to the IRS which allows people who have filed to retrieve that info to the FAFSA. If you file the FAFSA with estimated income data, you can go back and do the data retrieval after the tax return is completed.
Jan 28, 13:10:17Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi, sorry if i asked this again and you haven't responded yet, is it possible for an international student to receive almost full need (tuition + some of the boarding costs) if he has excellent academic skills, various prizes at olympiads and lots of activities?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi CristianDragomir - I think I did reply but I am happy to do so again! Especially since the answer is YES :-) The award amounts are based on your family's financial situation, you must complete a CSS Profile (www.collegeboard.org) by February 1. The stronger your admission application is the more likely you are hear good news from us at the end of March! Hope that makes sense.
Jan 28, 13:10:39Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidThis is incredible informative. Thank you!
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantAw, JSK, you are welcome and thank you for your interest!
Jan 28, 13:10:52Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidi also want to ask last time i received an e-mail saying that my financial aid is complete is there anything else we need to fill? and when will we get to know if we are accepted?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantSkidmore Admissions mails decision letters to regular decision students late March. Those admitted who are also aid applicants will receive an award letter.
Jan 28, 13:11:02Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidThis is incredible informative. Thank you!
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantGREAT!
Jan 28, 13:11:47Particpant -> Panelist(s)Does Skidmore have a no-loan policy?
Jan 28, 13:12:14Particpant -> Panelist(s)HI my parents have filed the CSS and the FAFSA based on projections and they are busy trying to complete the tax forms by the march 5 deadline. They own a scorp and are attempting to fill out the additional business form required . They were wondering why submitting all the documents (schedule K etc) by March 5 was not the method Skidmore choses for business owners. It is a lot of work to get the additional form done in addition to the taxes by March 5.
Jan 28, 13:12:40Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidWe don't file Tax a Return in my country. Is that an issue when it comes to being considered for financial aid?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello mikeG, the initial requirement for Skidmore Grant consideration is only that you have completed and submitted the CSS Profile (www.collegeboard.org) by February 1st. If you are admitted and enroll then we will ask for documentation supporting any income reported on the forms. Often we are able to use statements of earnings from employers if the student's country does not have tax returns. Hope that helps!
Jan 28, 13:12:52Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thanks for doing this live chat. Such a great idea.
Jan 28, 13:13:03Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAiddo the scholarships depends on our SAT or ACT scores? and will Skidmore accept the February ACT test score? and for what amount may the scholarship reach for an international student like me?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantI have to defer your admission questions to admissions (admissions@skidmore.edu).
From an aid perspective, if you are admitted, your award will be based on your financial need as determined by the CSS PROFILE.
Jan 28, 13:14:07Particpant -> Panelist(s)I tried to enter Skidmore's CSS code number (2815) in to the CSS profile application but I receive this message " No colleges or programs match your search - please try again. "
Jan 28, 13:14:14Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi I was wondering how we attach the earning the and expenditure for the year on the CSS profile and whether we should list household expenses or itemize them
Jan 28, 13:14:22Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHello Again, If there is more than one person in my family in college, will this affect our need?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Vartan, the short answer is yes. While the formula we use to determine a student's need is complicated, part of that formula uses the number of dependent family members enrolled in college. The impact of that varies depending upon other demographic and financial aspects of the student's household, but generally a student's need is higher if there is more than one dependent enrolled simultaneously.
Jan 28, 13:14:49Particpant -> Panelist(s)Do I have to notify Skidmore that I filed the FAFSA?
Jan 28, 13:14:51Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello, I don't think my question has been received? Or am I at the end of the queue? Thanks
Jan 28, 13:15:23Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidWhat about NYS aid (Tap)? When is that due?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantFor NY aid applicants, Skidmore will estimate your NYS aid eligibility. A completed Express TAP Application (ETA) must be filed so that funds are actual received by the College. When filing the FAFSA, you will be provided a link that will allow you to complete the ETA (and therefore apply for TAP). If you miss it applying when filing the FAFSA, go to HESC's website and apply there.
Jan 28, 13:16:14Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAiddo International Students receive 100% of their needs?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantAll admitted aid applicants who complete the CSS PROFILE by February 1st will have their financial need met.
Jan 28, 13:16:16Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidI'm filing the CSS Profile by myself because the guidance counselors at my school are only familiar with the FAFSA. If I accidentally report my taxes incorrectly, will I be able to fix this with the financial aid office at Skidmore? Can I send a copy of my tax forms just in case?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHI Sydneytran - GOOD FOR YOU for doing the CSS Profile. And yes - you can correct any mistakes by communicating directly with the financial aid offices that you are sending the CSS Profile to.
Jan 28, 13:16:59Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHow long does it usually take for a CSS to be sent and processed?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Jenny.
Generally Skidmore receives processed CSS PROFILES one or two days after the form is filed.
Jan 28, 13:17:24Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHi. My name is Nhi Nguyen. Are all admitted students met full-need?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantYes, as Skidmore determines need using the CSS PROFILE.
Jan 28, 13:17:42Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you so much for the previous answer, I will surely email your Financial Aid office to ask for the exact statistics if you would be kind enough to provide them. My second question is whether the financial aid package - if an applicant is admitted and awarded aid - is negotiable to any extent?
Jan 28, 13:18:04Particpant -> Panelist(s)Good afternoon! I am aware that Skidmore asks for the Noncustodial CSS Profile; however, what can a student like me, having absolutely no contact with her father, do in order to "withdraw" from completing this form?
Jan 28, 13:18:42Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidDoes applying for financial aid hurt an international applicant's chances?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi MIkeOgezi - applying for aid at Skidmore does mean that you are in, essentially, "two rounds of competition." Skidmore has received over 8,000 admission applications for approximately 650 first-year spots, and while our financial aid budget is robust, it is not unlimited. So, a student will need to have a strong academic portfolio to be admitted, as well as receive financial aid. With international financial aid, the amount we have to offer is smaller and so the competition for it will be higher.
Jan 28, 13:19:14Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHow do we apply for HEOP?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantSkidmore Admissions will refer a student's application to our HEOP Office if the student will not be admitted under our regular decision admission guidelines. Our HEOP office will then review for HEOP consideration.
Jan 28, 13:20:10Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello my name is Yasmina Khorma, I would like to know, if I don't want financial aid anymore how do I cancel it on my application?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Mina. Please email Financial Aid (finaid@skidmore.edu) and notify us that you are no longer an aid applicant at Skidmore.
Jan 28, 13:20:43Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello I am an international student and may have some problem submitting CSS profile on time. Is there a way we can ask for some more time for the profile to be submitted? Can I submit ISFAA instead of CSS?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Saurav.
Sorry but our deadline is February 1st.
Jan 28, 13:20:48Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidI know you might not be able to answer but I'd appreciate you trying. Let's suppose my mother only make about 20K a year, my father can't work, I have 4 siblings, etc ... What kind of financial aid package can Skidmore offer me?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi MikeG- While I cannot specifically answer (you could try our Net Price Calculator found at www.skidmore.edu/financialaid for an actual specific financial aid estimate) I can say someone with generally those circumstances, with minimal assets, would likely qualify for a full financial aid package, if admitted. Which is to say, up to $5,500 in student loans, $2,000 in student employment and the rest of the cost of attendance in grant assistance.
Jan 28, 13:22:05Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidis financial aid ongoing or do students need to apply annually? What if the family's financial circumstances change significantly during a student's time at school?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantA student/family applies for financial aid yearly. Generally if the application materials remain fairly similar year to year, the aid remains similarly. If a family's situation changes (good or bad), aid can change.
Jan 28, 13:22:10Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidCan International students apply for merit based scholarships? Can we have financial aid + merit scholarship?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Monica - Yes, international students can apply for/receive merit-based scholarships. We only have two (Filene music competition and the Porter math/science scholarship) check them out at our webpage www.skidmore.edu/financialaid. And yes, international students may also receive need-based assistance from Skidmore if admitted! :-)
Jan 28, 13:22:42Particpant -> Panelist(s)thank you: beth, Cary, for making this live-chat possible, although i haven't had much questions, i still learned lots of things just in a very short period of time, thanks for everything bye. i guess upcoming questions are kind of getting repetitive and its quite late in my country, bye :)
Jan 28, 13:23:22Particpant -> Panelist(s)hi i was wondering on how you attach the earnings and expenditure for the year on to the CSS profile and whether i should list the household expenses or itemize them
Jan 28, 13:23:24Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hello! I would just like to double check that only the CSS profile and FAFSA are due by February 1st right?
Jan 28, 13:24:03Particpant -> Panelist(s)hi...thanks for this informative forum.
Jan 28, 13:24:05Particpant -> Panelist(s)Vartan: This has been incredibly helpful. Thank you for your time and answering so many questions.
Jan 28, 13:24:44Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidWhat will happen if I miss the deadline for application of financial aid?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantIf you are a day or so within our February 1st deadline, that is okay. Skidmore may not accept you for admission if you are an aid applicant and have not completed the CSS PROFILE.
Jan 28, 13:25:11Particpant -> Panelist(s)If there is a very minor change in our previously submitted 1040, does that need to be reported on the FAFSA and CSS? I'm referring to a couple of hundred dollars difference in reported income.
Jan 28, 13:25:21Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidWith a family income of 225 to 250k, will we qualify for aid? is there reason to undertake the process?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Paul - while the income you cite is at the high end range of what we usually see, the formula is more complicated than an income cut off. I urge you to try our Net Price Calculator (even with rough estimates, just make sure you enter family size, number in college, basic income and asset info) to get an idea. You are on the borderline, I suspect, so it might be worth your time. While the calculator does ask a lot of questions, it still will be fewer than the CSS Profile and it is free to do our calculator to get a ballpark idea of whether you want to invest the time (and approx. $20) to do the Profile. Hope that helps!! PS. Any student at Skidmore can participate in work-study, even if they do not apply for financial aid!
Jan 28, 13:25:55Particpant -> Panelist(s)Do International Students receive 100% of their needs and how many International Students gets in ?
Jan 28, 13:26:33Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello madam, how much likely is an international student with good academics but poor financial condition get full need-blind scholarship?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantIf you are admitted to Skidmore and complete the aid application on time, you will be awarded financial aid based on your level of need.
Jan 28, 13:26:37Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi. If I am not mistaken, only some successful international applicants, who also apply for the financial aid, can receive the financial support. Is it correct?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello Long, every student who is admitted and has applied for financial aid by our February 1st deadline and who demonstrates financial need will be offered Skidmore Grant assistance. I'm not sure if that exactly answers your question, so please write back if you need more information! :-)
Jan 28, 13:27:35Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi, I was wondering if you only had to submit the CSS Profile by Feb. 1 or you had to submit the CSS Profile and the FAFSA by Feb. 1?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantDear RP, we only require the CSS Profile by February 1 (though other colleges may/would have different policies). If the student is admitted/enrolls, at that time we will require the FAFSA as well as supporting documentation such as W2s and tax returns.
Jan 28, 13:28:28Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidThanks so much for answering my questions! Concerning the Non Custodial Profile and a letter submitted from a third party instead - how do we have them submit it - email, regular mail, etc? Also, will the Profile show as incomplete?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Mary.
I would encourage you to provide that letter via email.
The CSS PROFILE is receipted in when we receive it electronically.
The CSS Non-Custodial is receipted in when we receive it electronically. It is waived when Skidmore accepts the 3rd party letter.
Jan 28, 13:30:10Particpant -> Panelist(s)I just read that an applicant may not be accepted if they are an aid applicant and have not completed the CSS Profile... How would you determine if they are an aid applicant... I guess I am asking because I am on the fence whether to complete the CSS, I don't think we will qualify, but I don't want to be the reason for her not being accepted either...
Jan 28, 13:30:22Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHi I was just wondering how you attach the earnings and expenditures for the year and whether we list the house expenses or itemize them
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantYou provide your income information on the CSS PROFILE. You are likely estimating these figures. You can provide "out of the ordinary" expenses in a section of the PROFILE which allows for typed in verbiage.
If/when enrolled at Skidmore, you will be asked to provide copies of the 2014 tax returns and W2s.
Jan 28, 13:30:51Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidI know Skidmore is not need-blinded. What is the average tuition fee parents should pay to give them higher chance of getting accepted into Skidmore?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello nhinguyen - that is correct, Skidmore is need-sensitive, but it doesn't quite work the way you are suggesting, so I cannot answer your question. The admissions office will go through an internal process of identifying all applicants they would like to admit, and then the financial aid office will check and see how that might line up with our budget amount. If necessary, at the end of the process, we may have to put some folks on the wait list if we feel we would exceed our budget. And those determinations would be made based on the academic qualifications of the students. So. Our strongest applicants will (most likely) admitted and offered financial aid, if they demonstrate financial need.
Jan 28, 13:31:07Particpant -> Panelist(s)For international students, is the CSS profile enough? Or do we need to send FAFSA-statement of finances-bank statements etc ?
Jan 28, 13:32:25Particpant -> Panelist(s)Could you please tell me, if I need to complete Business Supplement before Feb 1? Or just CSS?
Jan 28, 13:32:44Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidDoes Skidmore have a no-loan policy?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantGenerally, Skidmore meets a student's need with a work award, a loan and then Skidmore Grant aid. We share with students their maximum loan eligibility and allow the student to decide how much s/he wishes to borrow.
About 42% of our students borrow. The average student loan debt is about $23,000 upon graduation.
Jan 28, 13:33:04Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidThanks for doing this live chat. Such a great idea.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantYahoo!
Jan 28, 13:33:04Particpant -> Panelist(s)If my parents combined only make around 50k a year, and I am one of 3 children with one in college, What kind of financial aid package can Skidmore offer me?
Jan 28, 13:33:16Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidMy daughter applied, we are working our way through the CSS. Do you have a yellow ribbon program? If so, how do we apply?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Joe! Yes, we do participate in Yellow Ribbon. The student would receive an additional $10,000 in Skidmore Grant, in addition to their need-based aid, if any. There is no Skidmore application - simply notify us after the student is admitted and provide the veteran status documentation. This documentation should also be provided to our Registrar's office (should your daughter enroll) so that they may certify the benefits.
Jan 28, 13:33:56Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you
Jan 28, 13:34:34Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI tried to enter Skidmore's CSS code number (2815) in to the CSS profile application but I receive this message " No colleges or programs match your search - please try again. "
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantOur CSS PROFILE code is 2815.
???
See our website.
Jan 28, 13:35:07Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidThanks for the info, I see that the porter scholarship already has passed its deadline , is it possible to still apply? (it was 15th January)
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi CristianDragomir - get in in ASAP, I believe (firmly) the committee is at a point where they could still consider you!! :-)
Jan 28, 13:35:19Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidDo I have to notify Skidmore that I filed the FAFSA?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Jane.
As long as Skidmore is listed on the FAFSA, we will receive it electronically.
Remember, if applying for Skidmore Grant aid, be sure to file the CSS PROFILE.
Jan 28, 13:36:37Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidGood afternoon! I am aware that Skidmore asks for the Noncustodial CSS Profile; however, what can a student like me, having absolutely no contact with her father, do in order to "withdraw" from completing this form?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Joangle.
If you can have a third party (teacher, guidance counselor, member of clergy) provide a letter/email (finaid@skidmore.edu) supporting your lack of contact with your non-custodial parent, Skidmore will waive it.
Jan 28, 13:36:53Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidVartan: This has been incredibly helpful. Thank you for your time and answering so many questions.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantMy fingers are getting tired. : )
Jan 28, 13:37:03Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidhi...thanks for this informative forum.
Caryn_FinancialAid -> Particpant:)
Jan 28, 13:37:08Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidDo the parents need to complete the business and farm supplement ? If yes, then when is the deadline to submit it ?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi nihal11 - we do ask for the business/farm supplement, and by February 1st. This is not so relevant for someone who is, for example, a consultant with essentially no or very limited assets except themselves. If that is the case, then just email our finaid@skdimore.edu with the student name and that you won't be sending in the bus/farm supplement because of the reason just written above! If we need anything else from you we will reach out to you. :-)
Jan 28, 13:37:17Particpant -> Panelist(s)Ok, thank you so much Caryn!
Jan 28, 13:37:25Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you so much for doing this, it was very helpful!
Jan 28, 13:37:30Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you for this live chat and keep up the good work, have a nice day from Romania!
Jan 28, 13:38:16Particpant -> Panelist(s)I need to drop out now, but thank you for a very informative session.
Jan 28, 13:38:41Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidHello! I would just like to double check that only the CSS profile and FAFSA are due by February 1st right?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Monxing.
Only the CSS PROFILE is due by February 1st.
Unless you are seeking consideration for the NYS HEOP Program, the FAFSA does not have to be filed until April for Skidmore.
Jan 28, 13:39:32Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHello! My name is Vika and i am an international student from Tbilisi, Georgia. Cost of attandance for international is 47314$, am I right? And what is an average financial aid given to international students?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello Vika! The estimated cost of attendance (tuition+fees+room+meal plan) is closer to $60,000 for the 2015-16 academic year. The financial aid we offer is based on demonstrated financial need of the family and can equal the cost of attendance when those circumstances warrant. We also have about have of our students who attend without requesting and/or qualifying for financial aid. So, the range is from $0 to $60,000 and the average award really wouldn't be meaningful, I don't think, since it depends so much on a family's circumstances. I hope that is helpful to you nonetheless!
Jan 28, 13:39:39Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thanks so much for the quick reply. Have a good night!
Jan 28, 13:40:05Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI just read that an applicant may not be accepted if they are an aid applicant and have not completed the CSS Profile... How would you determine if they are an aid applicant... I guess I am asking because I am on the fence whether to complete the CSS, I don't think we will qualify, but I don't want to be the reason for her not being accepted either...
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Mary.
The Common Application asks whether the student will be seeking financial aid.
If financial aid is needed to enroll at Skidmore, than you are encouraged to file the CSS PROFILE.
Jan 28, 13:40:42Particpant -> Panelist(s)For the NYS HEOP Program, do we need to submit copies of tax returns or other information?
Jan 28, 13:41:33Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidAs an international student applying as an athlete - are we able to access financial aid that is not state funded (I am aware we cannot access state financial aid). Also, what is the average scholarship for a 30 ACT?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Dan! Skidmore's grant assistance is essentially all need-based. We do not award based on standardized test scores nor GPAs, etc. We do offer international admitted students need-based grant. To be considered, complete the CSS Profile (www.collegeboard.org) by February 1st!
Jan 28, 13:41:59Particpant -> Panelist(s)I have to sign out now. Thank you for this very informative session!
Jan 28, 13:42:29Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi, I am an international applicant applying from Bulgaria. I already submitted my CSS Profile to Skidmore. Should I send you any supporting documents, such as parents' 2014 gross income as well, or will these be requested later? Thank you!
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHI Didem - If you've submitted the Profile then you are all set with us for now! If admitted and you enroll, at that time we will request additional documentation such as income statements. Best wishes!
Jan 28, 13:42:42Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidCould you please tell me, if I need to complete Business Supplement before Feb 1? Or just CSS?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantIf the parent is the only "asset" to the business (there's is no physical building or much in inventory), then email finaid@skidmore.edu and we will waive the Business/Farm Supplement. Otherwise, please provide the form by Februar 1st.
Jan 28, 13:42:51Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidThanks for doing this live chat. Such a great idea.
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantMikeG2 - thank you, glad it was helpful!
Jan 28, 13:42:58Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidOk, thank you so much Caryn!
Caryn_FinancialAid -> Particpant: )
Jan 28, 13:43:06Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidThank you so much for doing this, it was very helpful!
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantSuper.
Jan 28, 13:43:28Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidThank you for this live chat and keep up the good work, have a nice day from Romania!
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantWow...Romania.
Jan 28, 13:43:33Particpant -> Panelist(s)What happens if you cannot add Skidmore to your CSS profile?
Jan 28, 13:43:42Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidThanks so much for the quick reply. Have a good night!
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHave a good night one and all.
Jan 28, 13:43:44Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you!
Jan 28, 13:43:45Particpant -> Panelist(s)thanks a lot!
Jan 28, 13:43:59Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you from sunny and warm California.....very helpful
Jan 28, 13:44:12Particpant -> Panelist(s)thank you. this was helpful
Jan 28, 13:45:05Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidWhat happens if you cannot add Skidmore to your CSS profile?
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantI think you're having an issue with the College Board. The 2815 is the correct CSS code for Skidmore. I would encourage you to call the College Board and seek assistance.
Jan 28, 13:45:56Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHI my parents have filed the CSS and the FAFSA based on projections and they are busy trying to complete the tax forms by the march 5 deadline. They own a scorp and are attempting to fill out the additional business form required . They were wondering why submitting all the documents (schedule K etc) by March 5 was not the method Skidmore choses for business owners. It is a lot of work to get the additional form done in addition to the taxes by March 5.
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi kr - with so many thousands of financial aid applicants, we have to have an earlier deadline so our staff has time to review them before the letters are printed and mailed. And to be clear, we do not need the tax returns until/unless you are admitted and enroll. I'm not sure what March 5 deadline you are referring to, as our only deadline is February 1 for the Profile and business/farm supplement, if needed.
Jan 28, 13:46:20Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi Beth. Thank you for this informative session. Please clarify what you meant in a prior answer about the business/farm supplement not being needed in certain cases. What do you mean specifically by "very limited assets except themselves"? And is there a dollar amount at which a small business needs to be declared on the financial aid forms?
Jan 28, 13:48:02Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidThank you so much for the previous answer, I will surely email your Financial Aid office to ask for the exact statistics if you would be kind enough to provide them. My second question is whether the financial aid package - if an applicant is admitted and awarded aid - is negotiable to any extent?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi awiq14 - we do accept "appeals," or request for additional assistance. We cannot always increase the financial aid award, but we are glad to discuss them and I suppose that means "negotiate." We want all our admitted students to be able to enroll, and if our financial aid decision leaves us an unaffordable choice for you, then we will re-review and hope to come to a positive resolution! :-)
Jan 28, 13:48:57Particpant -> Panelist(s)I am an international applicant and I would just like to thank you both :) It was worth staying up late for just this, it was very helpful!
Jan 28, 13:49:44Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you. This has been tremendously helpful and has answered questions that I didn't know that I had!!
Jan 28, 13:50:08Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidhi i was wondering on how you attach the earnings and expenditure for the year on to the CSS profile and whether i should list the household expenses or itemize them
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello mbongeni - you do not need to attach earnings/expenditures for the year, just complete the data on the CSS Profile and we will request supporting documentation if necessary! :-)
Jan 28, 13:50:20Particpant -> Panelist(s)i apologize if already answered, but i have not received 2014 w2's should i complete fafsa using 2013 figures our situation has not changed
Jan 28, 13:50:42Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI am an international applicant and I would just like to thank you both :) It was worth staying up late for just this, it was very helpful!
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantGreat. Glad we could help.
Jan 28, 13:51:41Particpant -> Panelist(s)I was wondering how much SAT and TOEFL scores does the university require. Does its score have any connection with the financial aid
Jan 28, 13:52:21Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidIf there is a very minor change in our previously submitted 1040, does that need to be reported on the FAFSA and CSS? I'm referring to a couple of hundred dollars difference in reported income.
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHello mike - I would not bother, at this point, with a couple hundred dollar change. Later in the process, once your student enrolls, you might want to log back into the FAFSA and use the IRS data retrieval - uploading the IRS data directly into your FAFSA. But, a change such as you have described would not appreciably impact financial aid eligibility.
Jan 28, 13:53:18Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidi apologize if already answered, but i have not received 2014 w2's should i complete fafsa using 2013 figures our situation has not changed
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Kit.
Remember, Skidmore requires the CSS PROFILE be completed for Skidmore Grant consideration.
For both the PROFILE and the FAFSA, if you're completing that at this time as well, you can use estimated 2014 figures. I would encourage you to use your 2013 return and your last pay stub for 2014 to estimate your 2014 income.
Jan 28, 13:53:44Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidFor international students, is the CSS profile enough? Or do we need to send FAFSA-statement of finances-bank statements etc ?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Zack900 -yes, the CSS Profile is enough. International students would not complete the FAFSA and supporting documentation such as statement of finances will not be necessary unless/until you are admitted and enroll at Skidmore. Be sure to check other college policies as I am only referring to Skidmore's! Good luck! :-)
Jan 28, 13:54:32Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thanks Caryn you have answered my question
Jan 28, 13:54:46Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you for all your help. I have contacted CollegeBoard. Have a great evening!
Jan 28, 13:56:29Skidmore -> EveryoneFive minute warning, everyone. Beth and Caryn will finish answering the questions in the queue and then we'll end the chat for the day.
Jan 28, 13:56:46Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidI was wondering how much SAT and TOEFL scores does the university require. Does its score have any connection with the financial aid
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Sauravl.
You can ask Admissions (admissions@skidmore.edu) your question on SAT/TOEFL scores.
If you are admitted to Skidmore and have completed your aid application by our February 1st deadline, your aid eligibility will be determined using the CSS PROFILE data.
Jan 28, 13:57:24Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidIf my parents combined only make around 50k a year, and I am one of 3 children with one in college, What kind of financial aid package can Skidmore offer me?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi RP - well, we cannot produce financial aid estimates via chat, unfortunately! :-) But, I can offer some reassurance by saying that if there are also modest assets in this family, there would be a demonstration of significant financial need and the awards would be "robust." Just make sure you get that CSS Profile submitted by February 1st. Also, you could try out our Net Price Calculator www.skidmore.edu/financialaid which would give you an estimated financial aid award. Just email us at finaid@skidmore.edu if you have more specific questions we can help you with, especially if you need help completing the Profile! :-)
Jan 28, 13:58:40Particpant -> Panelist(s)Hi Beth,
Jan 28, 13:59:17Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidFor the NYS HEOP Program, do we need to submit copies of tax returns or other information?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Jenny - if you are under consideration for the HEOP program we will reach out to you with a request for documentation (which will likely include the tax return).
Jan 28, 14:00:45Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank
Jan 28, 14:00:46Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you so much for your time and assistance!
Jan 28, 14:00:55Particpant -> Panelist(s)After the finicial aid application, is it ok to tell applicants how much money they will be receiving if accepted
Jan 28, 14:01:42Participant -> Beth_FinancialAidHi Beth. Thank you for this informative session. Please clarify what you meant in a prior answer about the business/farm supplement not being needed in certain cases. What do you mean specifically by "very limited assets except themselves"? And is there a dollar amount at which a small business needs to be declared on the financial aid forms?
Beth_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHi Rachelgroth - the business equity needs to be reported on the CSS Profile. We are generous with waiving the business/farm supplement, especially for folks who are consultants or are in private practice. If one employs others or has real estate equity, for example, we would expect a business/farm supplement to review the details of the business' financial situation. Does that help/clarify? If not then email us at finaid@skidmore.edu and someone can talk with you by phone tomorrow! :-)
Jan 28, 14:02:59Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you so much for the information.
Jan 28, 14:03:27Particpant -> Panelist(s)Can you tell me about HEOP program
Jan 28, 14:04:44Participant -> Caryn_FinancialAidAfter the finicial aid application, is it ok to tell applicants how much money they will be receiving if accepted
Caryn_FinancialAid -> ParticpantHmmm. Not sure what you are asking Cynthia.
Skidmore mails award letters to accepted aid applicants at the same time admissions mails the acceptance letters.
You could use Skidmore's net price calculator to get an idea of an aid package ahead of time.
Jan 28, 14:04:52Skidmore -> EveryoneThat's all for tonight, folks! Thank you for joining us for the Skidmore Financial Aid live chat. We'll make this transcript available online next week. In the meantime, please contact the Financial Aid office at finaid@skidmore.edu with further questions. Have a good day!
Jan 28, 14:05:15Particpant -> Panelist(s)Can scholarships limit the amount of financial aid package the school can offer?
Jan 28, 14:05:21Particpant -> Panelist(s)Thank you for this informative session Beth. I wanted to ask what the procedure is for international applicants applying from United World College (UWC) Schools. Do we need to fill in something extra for the Davis Aid or do we need to mention it on the CSS profile?
