The
Schick Art Gallery at Skidmore College prides
itself on its commitment to providing the community with quality contemporary
and historical exhibitions, and lively gallery talks. Artists and craftspeople
from around the world have been featured in unique interdisciplinary exhibitions
that connect the visual arts with the college's Liberal Studies curriculum.
The
Schick's recent exhibitions have emphasized
international and multi-disciplinary themes. These exhibitions have included
"6plus1",
work by six Czech artists and a New York artist of Czech origin; "Facing
Death: Prison Photos from Cambodia"; "New Territory: Art from
East Germany"; and a T.O.D.T. installation. Other recent exhibitions
have included "Geologic Visions: Art of the Landscape"; "Grace
Hartigan
and the Poets"; and retrospective exhibitions of art by Lenore Tawney,
Philip Guston, and Alice Neel. The gallery annually hosts the Juried Student
Show and regularly features work by members of Skidmore's art faculty. The
Schick Art Gallery's monthly exhibitions attract
nearly 20,000 visitors annually.
Exhibition
space is 1,250 square feet with 1,000 square feet of additional space for
outdoor sculpture on the adjacent deck overlooking the campus.
