Established in
1990, Gema Art Co. has from the beginning specialised
in several different fields of activity. One of these is the staging of exhibitions
of contemporary Czech art, not only at its own venue, Gema
Gallery, which presents contemporary Czech drawings, but also at public
galleries and museums (such as the Prague National Gallery, the Czech Museum
of Fine Arts, Rudolfinum Gallery and Prague Castle) with which it collaborates
in arranging major projects. Gema provides all
the services connected with organising an exhibition, including the loan of
art works, transport, and the conception and construction of the installation.
Its recent projects of this type include the publishing of a monograph on
the light-kinetic artist Zdenek Pesanek in collaboration with the Prague National
Gallery, retrospective shows of work by Ivan Ouhel and Jiri Mrazek at the
Czech museum of Fine Arts, a retrospective of work by Libor Fara at Prague
Castle accompanied by a monograph, exhibitions by Jiri Beranek and Vladimir
Novak in the precincts of Prague Castle, and a show by Pavel Kraus at the
Manes Gallery, Prague. Gema Art has been involved
in many others events of this kind, either through sponsorship, organisation
or the publishing of accompanying materials.
Gema's
exhibition activity is related to another area of its work, printing and publishing.
It has produces a series of monographs and catalogues to accompany exhibitions
in which it has been involved as an organiser. Working with top graphic designers,
reproduction studios and its own printing house, Gema
Art ensures highly professional results - a fact proved by the awards
and commendations it has received in the Finest Czech Book of the Year competition.
Restoration and heritage
conservation represent another of Gema Art's
key specialisations. Its restorers cover all technical fields, such as paper
and painting, sculpture in all materials, furniture and buildings. Of the
many restoration projects carried out by Gema Art,
the most significant have included St. Vaclav's Chapel at Prague Castle, The
Prague Archbishopric, and the buildings of the Czech Parliament and Senate.
