Grade Description: "The paper . . . "
A
  •   demonstrates a novel and creative approach.

  • B
  •   fully meets the specified assignment.
  •   employs adequate and reliable sources.
  •   employs appropriate examples.
  •   approaches sources critically.
  •   correctly and completely cites sources (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style).
  •   exhibits correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and vocabulary.
  •   presents a balanced approach to the subject.
  •   is clear, logical, and persuasive.
  •   arrives in on time.

  • C
  •   has many of the above characteristics, but fails to realize them fully.
  • (Such essays suggest that the writer needs to work through at least one more draft.)

    D
  •   has significant problems and/or numerous small problems.
  • (Such essays suggest that the writer has worked quickly through a single draft.)

    F
  •   has substantial problems.
